Telephone Kiosks with inspiring Textures…

As many of you know by now, I’ve been taking photographs of telephone boxes for 25 years, and over the last 12 months I’ve become fascinated by the lonely, ugly and insignificant kiosks which I once abhorred. Their textures often appear like double exposures which is what has inspired me to work in that way with some of the images like the one above; working all the textures of the telephone box into one image.

I love finding all the details and pulling out the atmosphere, character and beauty in every one I photograph. I often document my process on my extra Instagram account @outsidesense using the hashtag #thelonelykioskproject.

There were 5 telephone kiosk models for this blog post who you will meet towards the end after seeing their wonderful abstract side. And just for good measure, an old, pre 1953 K6, living in Cambridge Circus in London, standing proudly and securely amidst the chaos of building work and mesh netting around it!
