The Scottish Highlands ( Part 3 )

The sheer scale of things in the Highlands constantly reminds you of your own human smallness and insignificance…

The mountains are more powerful, more indifferent and far more in control than any of us…

The lack of internet and telephone up there makes life so much clearer and simpler, which made me connect again…

Picking flowers there seemed such an insignificant thing to do…and then when I did pick a few I really felt that insignificance…the outside was saying so much more We took a trip up the track for a bowl of soup at the nearest pub, 12 miles away…The Walker’s Bar was just that and had lots of old pictures of walkers, and an odd glass cabinet of pertinent bits and pieces…like a jam jar full of midges!!And then on our last day, we saw deer…

It was so amazing experiencing The Highlands for the first time, and something I would highly recommend… as long as you don’t mind getting really wet, wearing midge nets, avoiding ticks, walking miles through boggy marshland and being disconnected from the world!
